The Oath

………Yesterday, I went to court. I was needed for exhibit C, which was a brown silk necktie with yellow curlicues. Someday I may tell you why it was so important but I have something different on my mind right now. I testified after Mr. Leonard Heydecker was cross-examined for six hours. He was dead, professionally dead. He would be happy to get a job as a cab driver.
………Anyway, when he was supposed to swear on the Bible, something happened. I'm quite positive that no one else noticed but when the reporter said: "Put your left hand on the Bible and raise your right hand. Do you swear to tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help you God?" Mr. Heydecker replied: "I swear to tell the truth."
………Now, normally you say just: "I swear." or if you don't like to commit to anything, you say: "I do." But he just had to confuse me.
………I debated with myself, why would someone want to say that, but after Heydecker was forced to admit that he spent his Sunday morning in some cheap restaurant (no, that's too fancy, it was just a local diner), the penny dropped ...

What do you think? Did you get it or do I have to tell you?
