Death sentence

……Death sentence is a very controversial topic in today's society. Is it good or not? Should the law approve of killing people? Isn't it a bit hypocritical? Isn't the antediluvian saying "an eye for an eye" a little bit overrated?
……Well, here's my opinion. I think that if someone takes a life of another person he deserves nothing less than meet the same fate. A convicted murderer has no right to have what he's taken from his victim. He should take his own medicine. Excuse me, but if you kill someone, you have no place to live on this planet anymore.
……Of course, there's still the matter of proof. If you can't undoubtedly prove that your suspect is indeed a murderer, you ought not to kill him. What if you're mistaken? What if you kill an innocent person? But in the era of fingerprints, DNA and computers, it's very unlikely that you make such a fatal error.
……The only problem is the double measure. If two murderers commit the same crime, but only one has been legally convicted, it's not fair to kill one and let the other live. But that's just how it goes. You can't fix everything.
……Then there's the question of morality. By shooting a man in the heart, sitting him on the electric chair or injecting a poison into his veins, we ourselves are becoming murderers. Is it acceptable though? That I don't know. But I have a question for you. Does it sound fair to you, when a person (if you can still call such a monster a person), who killed thirty-two people during a five-year period, gets sentenced to only twenty-five years in prison? It doesn't to me …
...Please, share your opinions. Are you for or against the death penalty? . . . . . . --- ČESKÁ VERZE ZDE
