Stylish makeover

......This is a very short story (if you could call it that) that popped up in my mind and I couldn't get rid of it until I wrote it down. I hope you'll still enjoy it though. What's more, the fourth chapter of my story "A Murder in the Kitchen" is coming up this evening, so watch out for it :)

......I took a look at myself in the mirror I had installed in my bedroom and sighed. I looked a right mess. There was a cut on my right cheek, a string of bruises on the side of my throat and a dark purple swelling under my eye. No matter what I did with my hair, no matter what suit I wore, the injuries were still very present and very noticeable. I sighed again in surrender and went downstairs to join my friends for our weekly poker date. When I entered the front room, all three of its occupants turned their heads towards me and stared.
......Saul was the first to comment: "Rough night?"
......I shrugged noncommittaly, not wanting to explain what really happened. Let them assume I fought a group of thugs yesterday instead of running into a glass door on my way out of our lawyer's office. It was far more likely and far less embarassing anyway.
......Fred joined in on the fun with his own jibe while Orrie snickered in the background: "What happened? Asked someone for a new face?"
......"Yes, I heard bruises were back in style this spring. How many do you have?"
......Saul wasn't that easily deterred though and he pointed out with a grin plastered on his face: "Is that a black eye you are sporting? You must've really pissed somebody off."
......I shook my head. "Didn't you hear me? It's stylish, you want one too?"
......Saul raised his hands in a defensive gesture but kept the teasing smile on. "No thanks, I just think I have gone out of touch with current fashion trends."
......I looked at his checkered jumper, crooked necktie and beige overcoat and raised my eyebrows despite it being quite painful. "And you're just figuring that out?"
